Kem Sokha is to be prosecuted before the Phnom Penh Court on 19 January 2022. Sam Rainsy asks to be prosecuted in lieu of Kem Sokha.

Message from Sam Rainsy to the Hun Sen-controlled Phnom Penh Court:

« Instead of Kem Sokha the Phnom Penh Court should prosecute me for "sedition," "collusion with the USA" and "treason."

While this Court seems to be struggling to gather evidence supporting those allegations against Kem Sokha, I ask to be prosecuted in lieu of the present accused.

In my capacity as President successively of the Khmer Nation Party (1995-1998), the Sam Rainsy Party (1998-2012) and the Cambodia National Rescue Party (2012-2017) I have developed over the last 25 years a foreign network -- much more wide-ranging and active than that of Kem Sokha -- in order to seek support from abroad to bring about democratic change in Cambodia. If Hun Sen considers my countless meetings with foreign prime ministers, ministers, members of parliament and civil society leaders from numerous countries worldwide as activities pertaining to “collusion with foreign countries and agents” with the intention to commit “treason” and if Hun Sen considers the documents and photos that I have posted on my Facebook page to show my past activities with foreigners as “evidence” to prosecute me for “treason”, then the whole world will consider him as completely crazy. »
